Abstract:
In the context of increasing economic instability, the diagnostics of foreign trade between Ukraine and key partner countries, primarily the countries of the European Union, is currently relevant. Comprehensive studies of trade flows with these countries play a crucial role in identifying the main problematic issues of our country’s foreign economic activity, taking into account the recent dynamic expansion of a number of agreements and associations in the field of international trade. Ensuring Ukraine’s foreign trade security requires consideration of both internal and external factors, the impact of which is increasingly strengthening. The aim of the article is to determine the directions for ensuring Ukraine’s foreign economic security in the post-war period. The analysis of Ukraine’s foreign trade in goods was carried out based on components such as flows of volumes of exports and imports; foreign trade balance; the structure of exports and imports, taking into account changes in them; the grouping of exports and imports by leading commodity groups; the geographical structure of exports and imports (in terms of EU countries and countries worldwide); the leading countries by volumes of exports and imports of goods. A low level of diversification of export commodity positions and its raw material orientation make the country’s economy dependent on fluctuations in prices on global markets. This also indicates the low competitiveness of the domestic processing industry regarding integration into global production and sales chains. It is found that, in the pre-war period, there was a decrease in the share of polymer materials, plastics and products made from them, paper and cardboard, pharmaceutical products, and machinery, which poses a threat to the increasing dependence of the economy on the import of expensive high-tech products. The presence of structural shifts in the geography of foreign trade has been identified in favor of an increase in the share of trade volumes with EU countries due to the redistribution of export-import flows against the backdrop of a decline in the overall volumes of Ukraine’s foreign trade. The realities of the full-scale russian invasion of Ukrainian territory, on one hand, and the strengthening of European integration processes, on the other, require a reorientation of foreign economic activity and the search for new markets for product sales.
