Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the overall conception of digital twin technology, examine its practical applications, and identify opportunities for its implementation in project management processes. As a result of studying various aspects of the scientific understanding of digital twins, six approaches to interpreting this concept have been identified: visual-representative, information-communication, analytical-predictive, functional-optimization, cybernetic-evolutionary, and intelligent-adaptive. This has made it possible to: establish a methodological basis for building a conceptual model of digital twins; understand which aspects of the technology are more developed (e. g., technical) and which require further study (e. g., managerial, cognitive); and substantiate the interdisciplinary value of the model, which encompasses both technical and socioeconomic dimensions, crucial for integrating digital twins into project management. The basic characteristics of Digital Twin technology have been examined, and examples of its application in various types of human activities are provided. It was found that digital twin technology has already evolved from a technical conception (replicating a physical object) into a strategic management tool that enables integrated process management, including analytics, forecasting, and decision-making. The combination of technological and managerial dimensions allows this technology to be seen as a key element of digital transformation in project management. It has been demonstrated that in project management, digital twins serve as an efficient tool to support decision-making at all stages of the project lifecycle. The general, managerial, socio-cognitive, and ecologically sustainable benefits of using digital twin technology in project management have been identified. Together, they provide substantial economic benefits – reducing planning and testing costs, increasing forecasting accuracy, optimizing resources, lowering risks, improving productivity and result quality, enhancing investment attractiveness, and strengthening projects’ competitive positions. Both general and specific issues of implementing digital twins in project management have been examined. Addressing them should rely on a comprehensive approach that combines technical maturity, regulatory frameworks, the development of digital competencies, and the establishment of a new data management culture. Future research directions in this area include the standardization of digital twin models, the creation of methodologies for their ethical use, and the development of interdisciplinary approaches for integrating this technology into project management systems. Particular attention should be paid to adapting existing models to the specifics of project management, improving tools for evaluating the effectiveness of their application, and studying the influence of digital twins on managerial decision-making in a dynamic digital environment.
