Abstract: The article examines the regional characteristics of digitalization in the context of the global economy. The relevance of the topic stems from the fundamental role of digital transformation in contemporary economic development and the significant spatial disparities of this process across different macro-regions of the world. The aim of the study is to identify the development features of the digitalization process in the main macro-regions of the world and to summarize the key determinants that shape regional trajectories of economic digital transformation. The analysis revealed the existence of differentiated regional models of digitalization. The European model is characterized by institutional coordination, social inclusiveness, and environmental sustainability, but lags in the implementation of advanced network technologies. The Asia-Pacific model shows the highest growth rates and technological leadership of individual economies, despite substantial internal differentiation. The North American model maintains leadership in investment volumes and focuses on cybersecurity. The Latin American and African models face challenges related to the digital divide and limited institutional capacity. The study confirmed the existence of both universal priorities (development of digital skills, implementation of localized artificial intelligence) and region-specific emphases: developed economies focus on cybersecurity and technological sovereignty, while developing economies focus on financial inclusion and infrastructure development. It is found that the directions of digital transformation depend on multiple factors – the level of economic development, technological readiness, demographic situation, institutional capacity, and geopolitical position. It has been concluded that a universal approach to digitalization is largely ineffective, and strategies should consider the specific conditions and needs of each macro-region. The key factors for successful digital transformation have been identified as a developed digital infrastructure, a high level of human capital, effective institutions, sufficient investment in research and development, an open economy, and high-quality digital governance.
Keywords: digital transformation, regional characteristics of digitalization, global economy, digital divide, e-governance.
