Abstract: The aim of the study is to analyze the evolution of theoretical approaches to the formation of the foundations of innovative development, to identify key trends and patterns, as well as to determine the prospects for the further development of innovation theory. It has been found that in the ancient world, there were several approaches to motivating producers to update goods and services. These approaches varied depending on the region, culture, and historical period. In the relationships between producers and merchants, economic incentives served to motivate the updating of goods and services in order to attract buyers, as producers sought to attract buyers by improving the quality of their goods, lowering prices, or offering something new and unique. Among the social factors motivating producers to update goods and services was the perception in some cultures that owning certain goods and services was prestigious, which encouraged producers to create more luxurious and sophisticated products that could meet the needs of wealthy clients. Technological progress has always been a fundamental driver of innovative development, as inventions and discoveries of new technologies were an important factor in updating production processes, goods, and services. The fundamental factor ensuring economic development was State policy; regulatory State acts contributed to the development of trade, protected the rights of producers and consumers, promoted the implementation of new technologies, and ensured the quality of goods and services. The well-known founders of classical economic theory (18th–19th centuries) who emphasized the importance of the renewal of goods and services were Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and Jean-Baptiste Say. Attention was paid to the study of the impact of innovation implementation on societal development by the developers of evolutionary economics theory (20th century), among whom were Joseph Schumpeter, Richard Nelson, and Sidney Winter. The present article emphasizes that innovative development is a key factor for success and competitiveness in the modern world.
Keywords: innovations, innovative development, competition, economy, social development.
