Abstract:
Contemporary processes of digital transformation in Ukraine’s economy are unfolding in parallel with the large-scale relocation of enterprises, driven by wartime challenges and structural market changes. This creates new prerequisites for business process management and shapes spatial disparities in regional development. The digitalization of business processes has become a key factor in enhancing the efficiency of relocated enterprises, enabling them to adapt more rapidly to new conditions. At the same time, however, it may deepen inequalities between regions due to uneven levels of digital infrastructure. The aim of the article is to examine the impact of business process digitalization in relocated enterprises on spatial disparities in the development of Ukraine’s regions, and to identify mechanisms through which these processes influence economic resilience and territorial competitiveness. The study constructs a spatial econometric fixed-effects model based on panel data, which allows for the consideration of regional specificities and unobserved factors. The statistical base was formed using data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (GRP, innovative products), Opendatabot (number of relocated enterprises), and the Report on the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) for Ukrainian regions. The theory of institutional logic was applied to analyze the interconnection between innovation, digitalization, and the business environment through the lens of economic agglomeration. The research examines the influence of innovative products, enterprise relocation, and digital transformation on the growth rates of gross regional product (GRP) in Ukraine’s regions, as well as the spatial effects of economic agglomeration. The results demonstrate that enterprise relocation is the key driver of regional economic growth, while innovative products do not exhibit a statistically significant short-term impact. Digital transformation (DESI) reveals a paradoxical negative effect, explained by high adaptation costs, whereas the integrated indicator of relocation and digitalization (TODESI) shows a positive synergistic impact. It was found that spatial disparities in regional development remain persistent: regions possess different initial levels of economic development, and even when accounting for innovation, relocation, and digitalization, these differences do not disappear. The scientific novelty lies in combining the theory of institutional logic with spatial econometric analysis, which enables the identification of the effects of business process digitalization on regional development. Practical recommendations include: designing regional policies aimed at balancing the effects of relocation and digitalization; supporting the development of digital infrastructure in lagging regions; stimulating the integration of innovative business models in relocated enterprises; accounting for spatial agglomeration effects in planning postwar economic recovery.
