Abstract: The development of port enterprises directly depends on the ability to attract long-term financial resources. Modernizing port infrastructure, upgrading handling equipment, expanding capacities, and implementing modern technologies require significant investments, which cannot always be covered by internal funds. Therefore, bank loans, resources from international financial organizations, and other forms of external financing become particularly important. The aim of the article is to explore the possibilities of bank and international financing for port enterprises and to identify approaches for assessing credit risks, taking into account the specifics of port activities. Methods of analysis and synthesis, comparison, systematization, and generalization were used. The information base consists of works by Ukrainian and foreign researchers, regulatory legal acts, as well as statistical and analytical materials from banks, port enterprises, and international financial organizations. The article covers investment loans, credit lines, project and syndicated financing, bank guarantees, leasing, foreign direct investment, and mixed financing. Financial, sectoral, and investment factors of credit risk are identified. An approach is proposed that combines traditional indicators of financial condition with the stability of cargo flows, the level of production capacity utilization, the state of infrastructure, and the expected efficiency of the investment project. This approach allows for a more complete assessment of a port enterprise’s ability to meet its credit obligations and to reasonably choose an appropriate financing tool. The originality of the approach lies in combining traditional financial analysis with indicators that reflect the operational and investment features of port activities. The results obtained can be used by port companies, banks, and investors when preparing and evaluating investment projects.
Keywords: bank financing; port enterprises; international investment; credit risk; investment resources; project finance; cargo flows.
