Abstract: The aim of the article is to examine the structural and spatial patterns in the formation of the geo-economic architecture of investment partnerships between China and the European Union, as well as to assess the role of transnational corporations in facilitating technological synergy between the parties. The methodological framework is based on systemic, institutional, and statistical-analytical approaches, utilizing the Herfindahl–Hirschman index, the correlation coefficient, and the investment dependence index. The information base is compiled from data from Eurostat, the National Bureau of Statistics of China, and the Rhodium Group. It is found that Chinese corporations concentrate their investments in battery production, electric vehicles, and green energy, while European corporations focus on China’s high-tech and chemical sectors. The calculated indices confirmed a high correlation between the structures of mutual flows (R2 = 0.95) and the spatial concentration of Chinese FDI (IG > 0.25). The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the possibility of using this methodology to monitor the geoeconomic balance between leading centers of the global economy and to develop strategies for Ukraine’s investment positioning within the «EU – Asia» system. Prospects for further research are associated with modeling the impact of mutual investment dependence on the stability of value-added chains and assessing the risks of technological dependence – the process of diversifying production and research connections to reduce reliance on specific markets. The originality of this research lies in the comprehensive integration of sectoral, spatial, and corporate analysis, which enables the consideration of investment interactions between China and the EU as a cohesive geo-economic system with transnational corporations playing a leading role.
Keywords: investment partnership, foreign direct investment, China and the EU, TNCs, geo-economic interdependence, green economy, digital transformation.
