Abstract:
The aim of this article is to identify indicators of sustainable regional development in the context of increasing security threats. Sustainable regional development is one of the leading areas of contemporary scientific research due to the intensification of challenges that create obstacles to establishing the foundations for stable territorial functioning. The state of regional development in Ukraine is characterized by the impact of numerous threats that negatively affect the ability to form the principles of sustainable development. Full-scale military aggression, as a manifestation of security threats, has proven to be a shocking factor that triggered the intensification of other types of threats that existed in the pre-war period. The article proposes an approach to identifying regional development indicators under threat conditions, which includes the following components: distinguishing types of threats to sustainable regional development; determining criteria for classifying regions under threat conditions; distribution of threats based on their relevance to specific types of regions; identification of indicators for distinct types of threats. The proposed approach involves identifying development indicators by type of threat, as well as, within each type, additional indicators associated with the intensification of security threats, particularly military conflicts. Types of regions under security threats, including military conflicts, are distinguished according to characteristics such as: duration of occupation, duration of hostilities, number of air raid alerts, and the extent of damage and destruction of infrastructure. This understanding of the classification of regions and territories allows tracing the origins of threats along specific directions and examining the degree of influence of certain types on the transformation of other kinds of threats.
