Abstract: Current environmental problems pose a threat to human existence at all levels – from local to global. Among the consequences of ignoring the environmental factor within the system of threats to the economic security of Ukraine’s regions are: deterioration in the population’s quality of life, increased mortality and morbidity due to environmental pollution; higher costs for mitigating the effects of anthropogenic impacts on the environment; resource and energy crises; worsening quality of living conditions and food for the population; technological and natural hazardous processes, ecosystem degradation, and more. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the environmental health risk to the population considering socioeconomic determinants (using the Poltava region as an example), which will allow evaluating the effectiveness of environmental safety management at the intra-regional level. In calculating the potential risk of toxic effects, a linear-exponential model based on the dose-response relationship is used. To construct an adequate model of «environmental risk to public health – socio-ecological-economic factors», an economic-mathematical modeling method was employed, specifically a system of simultaneous equations to represent complex interdependencies. The modeling of the dependence of socioeconomic factors on environmental factors revealed that economic losses in the Poltava region due to environmentally induced morbidity amount to 3.4–3.6%, with water pollution contributing 3%, air pollution 7%, and soil contamination 11%. Furthermore, there is a trend of these losses increasing. Based on the obtained model, a forecast of the region’s socioeconomic development was made in scenarios of increasing environmental risk. Thus, the proposed methodology for assessing the environmental health risk to the population, taking into account socioeconomic determinants as an instrumental support for decision-making in selecting the most prioritized strategies for environmentally safe economic development, will not only contribute to the improvement of the environmental situation but also lead to the creation of more effective policies for ensuring environmentally safe economic development in Ukraine and its regions.
