Abstract:
The efficiency of innovation and investment processes is crucial to a country’s economic growth. At the macroeconomic level, this efficiency is determined by the impact of capital investment and innovations on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, labor productivity, and the country’s technological development. The European Innovation Scoreboard, compiled by the European Commission, is the widely recognized tool for conducting a comparative analysis of innovation efficiency among European Union countries and their neighbors. Scholars from various countries propose a range of assessment methodologies; however, a common shortcoming is that they consider only specific components of innovation and investment processes. The aim of this article is to substantiate key performance indicators for innovation and investment processes at the macro level based on an analysis of existing assessment methodologies, to analyze the dynamics of this performance using Ukraine’s macroeconomic data, and to determine the interrelationship between the efficiency of these two processes – innovation and investment – and their impact on changes in GDP per capita. To achieve the study’s aim and objectives, the authors employed general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, as well as multivariate statistical analysis techniques, specifically canonical correlation and multifactor regression analysis. This article presents the results of an analysis of existing methodologies for assessing the efficiency dynamics of innovation and investment processes at the macroeconomic level. Based on actual macroeconomic data regarding the development of innovation and investment processes – and utilizing the European Innovation Scoreboard – the study categorizes European Union and neighboring countries according to their innovation performance levels in 2026. An analysis of the efficiency of innovation and investment processes in Ukraine is provided based on key indicators. Additionally, the article outlines existing models of innovation and investment process efficiency across country groups. The proposed system of key performance indicators for innovation and investment processes within the national economy – along with the analytical framework for assessing the interrelationship between the efficiency of these two processes and their impact on the country’s economic growth – holds scientific and methodological significance. Identifying modern avenues for enhancing the efficiency of innovation and investment processes in Ukraine is of practical importance. Future research into the efficiency of these processes within the national economy should focus on examining them at the meso- and microlevels.

Keywords: innovation and investment processes; national economy; efficiency; key indicators; assessment of factor impact; ways to improve efficiency.
