Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of existing approaches to the definition of the concept of «sustainable development» and the study of its adaptability to integration into the national security system in the current conditions. The writing analyzes the scientific views of Ukrainian scholars who focus on various aspects of sustainable development, and draws the following conclusions: first, there is no single generally accepted definition of sustainable development, since scholars focus on various aspects – environmental, social, economic and technological; secondly, a significant emphasis is placed on national and regional specificities, some approaches are focused on the need to adapt sustainable development to specific national conditions; thirdly, the harmonization of economic, social and environmental components is emphasized, because most approaches emphasize the importance of balanced development, which combines economic growth, social stability and ecological sustainability; fourthly, the need for crisis management has been identified, since most approaches are focused on long-term goals. It is concluded that: a) all these approaches are aimed at ensuring long-term stability and security of the State; b) focusing on various aspects of sustainable development does not form a full adaptive theoretical and methodological basis for effective integration into the national security system. Prospects for further research are to adapt the theoretical foundations of the concept of «sustainable development» for integration into the national security system in the following areas:
1. Adaptation of the conception of sustainable development to crisis conditions;
2. Balance between long-term and short-term solutions;
3. Adaptation of sustainable development to national conditions.
In general, further research in the field of sustainable development should contribute to the formation of a comprehensive national security system capable of taking into account all possible threats and effectively responding to modern challenges.
Keywords: sustainable development, national security, concept of «sustainable development».
