Abstract:
In today’s world, websites have become an important channel of communication between local governments and citizens. Effective websites of local self-government bodies can help improve the provision of services to the population, raise citizens’ awareness of the government’s activities and stimulate citizens’ participation in decision-making. The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the websites of local self-government of Rivne region with use of web analytics. The object of the study is 64 territorial communities of Rivne region. The study showed that the websites of local self-government in Rivne region have a number of problems that negatively affect their effectiveness. These problems include: 1) low attendance. Many local government websites have a low number of visitors, which indicates that they are not effective tools for informing citizens; 2) insufficient quality of content. The content on many local government websites is irrelevant, uninteresting and unpractical for users; 3) poor technical optimization. Many local government websites load slowly, are not optimized for mobile devices, and are not accessible to people with disabilities. However, the study also showed that the websites of rural and settlement communities have a higher traffic rate compared to urban communities. This may be due to the fact that in rural areas people have fewer alternative sources of information about the activities of the authorities. The study also identified a number of factors influencing the effectiveness of local government websites. These factors include: the relevance of the content; download speed; mobile optimization; user experience. The results of the study highlight the importance of an integrated approach to improving the effectiveness of local government websites. Local governments that want to have effective websites should improve the quality of content, optimize their websites technically, use SEO and social networks, and involve citizens in the development and improvement of their websites.
