Abstract:
The article is devoted to issues of managing the adaptability of sectors to the challenges of sustainable development based on the principles of circular economy. The aim of the article is to substantiate the theoretical and methodological approach and to develop a model for managing the adaptability of sectors of the economy of Ukraine to the challenges of sustainable development through the integration of the principles of circular economy. The article discusses the theoretical and methodological aspects of managing the adaptability of economic sectors to the challenges of sustainable development in the context of the transformation of the global economy and the necessity to transition to a new paradigm of resource efficiency. The study presents a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of the gross value added structure by types of economic activity in Ukraine from 2010 to 2021, which has revealed key trends, in particular, the dominance of traditional sectors and the gradual growth of innovation-oriented sectors. A model of management adaptability has also been substantiated, which entails the integration of circular economy principles as a fundamental strategy for achieving economic, environmental, and social sustainability. The model’s structure is outlined, incorporating key functional components: analytical-diagnostic, forecasting-scenario, strategic-normative, institutional-organizational, instrumental, and evaluative-regulatory. It has been revealed that the circular economy promotes a reduction in the consumption of primary resources and environmental burden while creating added value through the development of innovative business models, the recycling industry, the sharing economy, and eco-design. The research demonstrated that the integration of circular approaches in sectoral policy allows for more flexible responses to global challenges, including climate change, resource shortages, and economic instability. The expected results of implementing a circular economy in various sectors, including industry, agricultural production, energy, transport, construction, tourism, finance, education, and trade, are substantiated. It has been determined that the implementation of circular economy principles will contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 12 – responsible consumption and production, SDG 13 – climate action, SDG 9 – industry, innovation, and infrastructure, and SDG 8 – decent work and economic growth.

Keywords: sustainable development, sustainable development challenges, circular economy, adaptability of industries, innovative models, resource efficiency, economic transformation.
